Dutch Seed Bank Brings Experience to Colombia’s Legal Cannabis Industry

In a historic move, Paradise Seeds, has become the first cannabis breeder from the Netherlands to be granted a license to legally grow cannabis in Colombia. The company will begin producing high quality medical cannabis concentrates and extracts in early 2019.

A partnership with two Colombian based companies, CannHill and Paradise Products SAS, will see the Amsterdam based company provide seeds, clones and pest free tissue culture for a new purpose built CannHill facility near Medellin.

Paradise Seeds is well placed to bring its knowledge and expertise to Colombia’s legal cannabis industry. A cultivator of unique cannabis genetics for over 30 years, it also has a track record of working with licensed medical cannabis producers in Europe and the Americas.

Covering 2.5 hectares, the CannHill facility will manufacture cannabis based products to be prescribed for Colombian medical patients and also for export, to fulfil international demand for medical cannabis products.

The CannHill facility will produce a product range that includes raw oil and premium quality cannabis concentrates as well as extracts with different proportions of the cannabinoids THC and CBD to provide bespoke treatments for specific medical conditions and has several product patents pending.

The company is aiming to become a leading supplier of bulk high-grade cannabis oil to pharmacies, laboratories and licensed distributors. With over 20 countries legislating on medical cannabis in recent years, CannHill is already in discussions to supply pharmaceutical companies around the globe, as well as within Colombia.

Paradise Seeds Founder and medical cannabis seed breeder, Luc Krol, said, ” We are very excited to be working with our new Colombian partners and to have the opportunity to help develop Colombia’s potential as a world leader in the production of legal cannabis. The CannHill facility has the capacity to efficiently extract 10 liters of cannabis oil each day.

As a breeder owned company we were one of the first seed companies to champion medical cannabis. Through our experience, we have a unique understanding of the process at every stage – from cultivation to extraction – as well as the genetics and the knowledge to produce a very high quality medical product.”

Colombia is recognised for being one of the best places on the planet to grow cannabis. Its climate and 12/12 hours of light ratio allows for at least 4 harvests per year.  Cannabis cultivation for medical and scientific purposes was legalized in 2017 through government issued licenses for commercial producers.

Paradise Seeds’ premium strain collection (with 30+ varieties) is already used by licensed medical producers in Europe, North and South America.

CannHill® acquires a 2.5 hectares and begins building a greenhouse

New phytopharmaceutical company, CannHill SAS®, has expressed its intention to begin growing medical cannabis in Colombia within the next six months.

The company has acquired a 2.5 HA site near the city of Medellin in the province of Antiquioa, which will be the base of its operations, providing a facility for cultivating cannabis plants and extracting oil which will be used to make a range of cannabis based products.

The company has a number of licenses pending, with the Colombian government, which will allow CannHill SAS®,  to cultivate psychoactive and non-psychoactive cannabis and to manufacture derivative products for domestic purposes and export.

Work has begun on the construction of a greenhouse facility which has the potential to grow thousands of plants. The Colombian climate and light cycle (hours of daylight and darkness) provides perfect conditions for cultivating cannabis, allowing 4 harvests per year.

Project Director Monica Sanchez says, “This is a very exciting time for Colombia and also for CannHill. We are a new company but we are not new to this sector and the company is backed by a great deal of experience.”

CannHill SAS® has secured cannabis genetics for the project through the close collaboration with Paradise Products SAS, who will be providing seeds and clones to CannHill SAS®. Paradise Products SAS is the Colombian based company of Paradise Seeds in the Netherlands, which has been breeding cannabis genetics for over 30 years.
